International Table Tennis Pro Visits The Table Tennis Table Shop

Here at the Table Tennis Table Shop, we’re always looking to develop the skills of our customer services team, whether it’s through comprehensive product training or just letting them try out our products.

Having made arrangements last month, this week former England international table tennis player, Nigel Eckersley, came to visit our Oxfordshire office to give our team some hands-on product training. After the team had stopped marvelling over Nigel’s impressive sports car we made our way to the company’s retail outlet where we had set up a table tennis table to play on.

Nigel, who was capped by his country more than 50 times, maintains his fitness by running a local table tennis team and still represents England veterans. Nigel hadn’t lost any of his ability and was due to play in an international tournament the following weekend.

Initially we all rallied with Nigel whilst he gave us some tips to improve our technique, which really made a difference in most cases. Two members of our team, Tom and Simon, are keen table tennis players and had been practicing tirelessly for the last few weeks in order to impress the professional, which they did.

After we had each rallied with Nigel he asked us to play a few more offensive shots, this was when we all realised just how good Nigel really was, repeatedly returning our efforts with shots that were impossible to return.

Everyone really enjoyed Nigel’s visit and vowed to get some practice in before arranging a return visit.

Table Tennis - The most under-rated sport in existance…

As I’m sure you are aware, sport is not just a common hobby for people with spare time anymore, it is a full grown global obsession. As well as being a career for some lucky people, it is a sacrilege that is commonly considered worthy of lifelong dedication, me included. But it is a very rare occurrence that you meet someone who describes themselves as self confessed table tennis addict, despite the nation’s love for sports such as rugby, football, cricket and even tennis - a similar concept to table tennis but with more exercise.

The majority of people, who are interested in sport, if asked, would say that they like playing table tennis and the majority of those will say that they are very good at it, but it’s the significant minority, even an anomaly that regularly plays or attends a local club training sessions.

Table tennis is an extremely fun sport that has the same health benefits as other alternatives, and is less expensive than other sports too, but still it remains the unsung hero of our nation’s sporting spectrum.

I personally am a huge fan of playing table tennis, although much like the majority I have only played it a few times. I for one intend on intensifying my love for the under-exposed sport and am seriously contemplating purchasing a table of my own.

Timo Boll Wins in a Dramatic final at the Qatar Open

In one of the most dramatic finals Table Tennis has seen, Germany’s Timo Boll, Sponsor of Butterfly’s Timo Boll range kept his concentration and went on to win the Men’s Singles event at the Quatar Open. Which was quite possibly the best match out of all 5 days.

1. Denis’s Table Tennis World this is one of my favourite Table Tennis Forums, as they have up to date Posts and all there users are extremely active.

2. My Table Tennis this Table Tennis forum I have been a fan of for a while now however I do get put off by the advertisements everywhere

3. About.com Table Tennis Forum Now this is my favourite Table Tennis Blog, as Gregg Letts keeps it regularly updated with outstanding content and information, they also have a vast range of interesting resources that I use regularly

4. Table Tennis Equipment is a new site however I think that it has a lot of useful information about some of the Table Tennis Brands

5. Table Tennis Tables sells specialist and recreational Table Tennis Equipment, from Table Tennis Tables to Table Tennis Blades. When buying my equipment I always use this site

Applying Speed Glue

Place your rubber on a slab of glass
Apply your glue onto the rubber (making sure there is enougth on there)
Using a brush spread the glue all over the rubber so that it is covering the entire flat surface
flattern the rubber and place a second slab of glass over the top, then leave the rubber inbetween the glass for 10-20minutes
Remove your the top slab of glass and make sure the glue has gone tacky
Your rubber is now ready to be applied to the blade

Repairing a Table Tennis Ball

One of the things that most annoy me in Table Tennis is how the Balls crack or collapse in on themselves, however there is a way to fix this problem and make your ping pong ball as good as new

1. Fill a Pan up just over half way with water

2. Place the pan on your ovens hob

3. Wait until the water is boiled or hot

4. Place your crumbled Table Tennis Ball in the water

5. Using a spoon roll the Table Tennis Ball around in the pan

6. Remove the Table Tennis Ball our of the pan and place on a plate to dry

Economy is down and so is Table Tennis

Recently Table Tennis Sales have been down drastically because people aren’t worried about what there child may want for Christmas they are more worried about how am I going to keep my home if I lose my job. The key is that we need to think positive because if we don’t we are only going to get deeper.
Recently Woolworths, a huge high street retailer announced that they are going to go bust and thousands of there employees are going to lose there jobs unless someone buys out the company. Now is this really what we want to be hearing on the news and in the media, it is not going to help the situation we are in.

Will Weather Effect Table Tennis

Recently I have started to noticed on our online Table Tennis shop that people are only buying Indoor Table Tennis Tables which is quite obvious why, however there are many ways to maintain an outdoor table tennis table, for example get a cover this will stop it from being effected by frost and rain, although most outdoor Table Tennis Tables from Table Tennis Table Shop come with Panel Laminated Resin and protected melamine.

Table Tennis Vs. The Sports

Lately I have stated to compare Table Tennis against the other sport categorys around and I feel like Table Tennis should be bigger than it is take basketball for example, basketball is a huge sport and if you say to someone name a basketball team they will almost always answer with an actual team where as if you were to ask someone name a Table Tennis team they would not have a clue. So why is Table Tennis not as popular as the most dominant sports my only answer would be that it is to confusing the leagues are not as well talked about and the way table tennis is played extermly odd.
