In one of the most dramatic finals Table Tennis has seen, Germany’s Timo Boll, Sponsor of Butterfly’s Timo Boll range kept his concentration and went on to win the Men’s Singles event at the Quatar Open. Which was quite possibly the best match out of all 5 days.
Economy is down and so is Table Tennis
Recently Table Tennis Sales have been down drastically because people aren’t worried about what there child may want for Christmas they are more worried about how am I going to keep my home if I lose my job. The key is that we need to think positive because if we don’t we are only going to get deeper.
Recently Woolworths, a huge high street retailer announced that they are going to go bust and thousands of there employees are going to lose there jobs unless someone buys out the company. Now is this really what we want to be hearing on the news and in the media, it is not going to help the situation we are in.
Will Weather Effect Table Tennis
Recently I have started to noticed on our online Table Tennis shop that people are only buying Indoor Table Tennis Tables which is quite obvious why, however there are many ways to maintain an outdoor table tennis table, for example get a cover this will stop it from being effected by frost and rain, although most outdoor Table Tennis Tables from Table Tennis Table Shop come with Panel Laminated Resin and protected melamine.
Table Tennis Vs. The Sports
Lately I have stated to compare Table Tennis against the other sport categorys around and I feel like Table Tennis should be bigger than it is take basketball for example, basketball is a huge sport and if you say to someone name a basketball team they will almost always answer with an actual team where as if you were to ask someone name a Table Tennis team they would not have a clue. So why is Table Tennis not as popular as the most dominant sports my only answer would be that it is to confusing the leagues are not as well talked about and the way table tennis is played extermly odd.
ITTF Banishes Speed Glues
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has, as of September 1, 2008, banished a wide variety of solvents used to apply table tennis equipment rubber to rackets. The following is text verbatim from the Chairman of the ITTF Equipment Committee, Odd Gustavsen.
We would like to draw your attention to the decision made in Guangzhou, valid from September 1, 2008 (The Law 2.4.7.):
The covering material should be used as it has been authorised by the ITTF without any physical, chemical or other treatment, changing or modifying playing properties, friction, outlook, colour, structure, surface, etc.
This means an absolute ban for the use of boosters (tuners, enhancers, improvers, etc.). The purpose of a booster is to change something – if not, what would be the intention. You may find such products claiming to be harmless, to be allowed by ITTF, or to be without VC (volatile compounds), etc. There is little reason to believe this is true. Please be very sceptical since these are generally bad for your health, even containing poison in some cases.
According to our tests there is no way that a sponge can be treated separate from the covering; refer the usual way a booster is applied, i.e. on the sponge.
Boosters represent a messy, time consuming, costly, unhealthy, and now illegal way of achieving spin and speed, and you may be detected in a tournament. Other and better ways exist for the same purpose.
How Far Will Table Tennis Go
However people look at Table Tennis it has changed a lot since its former state as an after dinner lawn game in the 1890’s. Today there is big money involved as players buy and play with high-tech rackets and volley the ball at awesome speeds reaching up to 160 kilometers per hour. Table Tennis has now become one of the world’s top sports with schools teaching pupils how to play and the sport being held in the Olympic Games like the recent Beijing Olympics. With over 40 million players worldwide and thousands of millions playing casually, table tennis has reached an all time best. Table Tennis first hit the Olympic seems in 1988 at Seoul, where people used cigar-box lids for rackets and a carved champagne cork for a ball. Today players use unique rubber coated, fibre-glass bats, and a celluloid ball. The table tennis equipment industry is becoming more and more powerful, some glues are even banned from the Olympics, as they make the ball travel to fast
